R.O.W.V.A. Family Reading Night Funded By Illinois Reading Council Grant A Family Reading Night will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Central LMC from 6:30-7:30 PM. Refreshments and other “treats” will be provided. This even has been graciously funded by an Illinois Reading Council Grant applied for by Mrs. Schulthes. Dr. Mike Lockett will entertain parents and students with his storytelling skills. Dr. Lockett has been telling stories for over 38 years, has produced several audio CDs of stories and music, as well having published several children’s books.

Reading Comprehension Tips! 1. Have your child choose a book in which they are interested. 2. Skim through the book they selected so that you know the story line.3. Read the book together with your child, asking questions along the way. 4. Ask questions to make personal connections such as:· Who are the main people in the story?· Which character do you like most?· Which character is the most like you/me/your friend?· ___ is having a problem with _______. Has this ever happened to you?· Have you read other stories where the main character had the same problems?How would you solve this problem?
